If you are contemplating dog ownership, there are many different breeds to ponder. Although, if you have an active family that enjoys outdoor activities, you may want to consider a Vizsla.
Vizsla Facts
This unique, pointer-breed of dog originates from Hungary and is bred specifically for hunting. These intelligent canines have an excellent nose and are able to sniff out game better than most breeds. Their superior intelligence makes them easy and fun to train. Vizslas love to run and play; they need a lot of activity to stay healthy and happy. This even-tempered type of dog makes for a great family pet; they love to be touched and readily show their affection to their caretakers. They are also fiercely loyal and can be great guard dogs. Due to their high-level of intelligence, a Vizsla can innately sense when a situation becomes tense; they serve as wonderful protectors.
They are a medium-sized dog, the smallest of all pointer breeds. Their short, auburn hair matches the color of their eyes. This special breed is slim and muscular and is often mistaken for a Weimaraner. The nose of a Vizsla will match the color of their fur — if the color of the snout varies from the fur, they are most likely a different breed of dog. Even their nail color will blend into their auburn fur. Their coat should always be a colorful blend of auburn hues — solid red pelts or pale yellow coats are considered flaws.
Furthermore, this breed is not well-suited for outdoor life due to their lack of undercoat. They enjoy playing and hunting outside, but need to be kept inside for sleeping. One of the best qualities of a Vizsla is that they clean themselves. They do not need regular bathing and have a naturally sweet smell, unlike most other breeds. Even after spending time in filthy water, they just need a basic rinse to regain their nice scent. If you are looking for a smart, clean, well-mannered dog, you may want to consider a Vizsla puppy!
