Training Golden Retriever Puppies
We begin training puppies at 4 weeks old. The initial training is to respond to a whistle, a hand clap or a snap. We do this by giving the puppies these cues before we feed. At 6 weeks of age we begin working with our pups on an individual basis. We teach them to walk on a leash and begin their obedience training with site, stay and down.
Top Quality Golden Retrievers Training
We also begin crate training at this time by feeding the pups in individual crates. We strongly believe that crate training is the easiest & most natural way to house train a puppy. Dogs still retain a “den” instinct. It is the reason a puppy will crawl under a table, couch or chair, its dark, snug & safe in there. The crate is always a positive aspect in a puppy’s life. If they are being disciplined they need to put outside, NOT in the crate. The crate is a safe haven, where they eat, sleep & feel safe warm & cozy.
By 8 to 12 weeks old the pups have learned both verbal & visual cues for sit, stay, down & high 5. They are also well on their way to learning how to wait at the door, walking nicely on leash & not to chew, bite, bark or dig.
Beyond this age, they are working on increasing the time spent in training, polishing up behaviors & learning about the outside world. We take our puppies out on “field trips”. We will take them to safe places, where they can interact with different people & animals, all the while they are expected to maintain their good behaviors.
The highest level training includes off leash obedience & other fun tricks depending on the dogs abilities. They will have earned their Canine Good Citizenship, some would make excellent service or therapy companions.
Our goal in training is to create a good canine citizen, one that can become an excellent addition to your home, your family & your life for many years to come.
Levels of Training
Early Training Tools
-
Rule of 7
Our Rule of 7 was adapted from Dr. Carmen Battaglia’s guide for increasing puppy’s exposure
-
The Von Falconer Way
Von Falconer developed a break down by age for introducing pups to external stimuli to ensure they are well-rounded and prepared for the outside world.
-
Early Neurological Stimulation
We help stimulate the neurological system which improves the growth and development of the pup’s immune system, cardiovascular system, and stress tolerance.
Training Level Differences
(Crate trained) go home at 8 weeks of age Price Starts at $5,000, Creams start at $6,000. They will have had at least 1 week of crate experience. Of course all of our dogs are brought up with ENS, Von Falconer’s, and Rule of 7 (please view details on these under “Resources”).
They go home around 12 weeks of age Price Starts at $9,000 . These pups are like kindergartners. They practice multiple times a day. They have learned the basics but still need help and to do things correctly. They have started Potty training and can hold it for up to 45 min in the house, are crate trained, learning leash etiquette, socialization, basic obedience (Sit, Down, Stay, Come, Wait), some tricks (Dance, Crawl, High 5, Roll over), Manners (no mouthing, no digging, no barking, no jumping up on us or furniture) and also being taught to play fetch. But as a puppy they have short attention spans and things go quickly. They are still working on Stay, Come, Fetch, Potty training and proper leash etiquette but they understand what needs to be done to get a treat. So like a kindergartner who knows their ABC’s but still need help, they know not to color on the table but they still might.
Dogs are at least 16 weeks of age Price Starts at $13,000 . These pups are like 10 year olds. They understand Wrong, their obedience, how to play well with others, but can still lose focus so they still need a leash. These dogs walk on leash, crate trained, potty trained up to 1 1/2 hours to 2 hours, understand their commands with hand signals, and have learned fetch. Different pricing on these are based on ability and age.
Are at least 6 months of age Price Starts at $24,000 ; we do have a few over 1 years of age available. These dogs are potty trained, and work off leash in addition to everything else. Pricing depends on proficiency, type of training, whether they are altered, and have had their elbows and hips evaluated by OFA. Most of our Young Adults will have earned their AKC Canine Good Citizenship Certificate (CGC).
Service Dog Training
Disclaimer: Puppies, are not programmable and do not all reach the exact same level. Like Children some pups will have harder times in certain areas and it is impossible to fully guarantee perfect training with every pup. Continuing success at home has as much to do with the new family as our training so it is important for you to be prepared to keep practicing with the tools given. Golden Meadows does guarantee that they will have worked hundreds of hours with each puppy and will do everything possible to prepare your puppy and you. Golden Meadows will provide training instructions, DVD videos and a lifetime of support so you can continue training and socializing your pup.
Benefits of Trained Golden Retriever Puppies
Golden Retrievers are fun-loving dogs, but not everyone can have one. Because they are highly energetic, they need lots of space and exercise. Before you decide to buy a golden retriever puppy, make sure you are prepared to take care of a high profile and very busy sporting breed.
Improve Your Physical Being
When Golden Retriever puppies are adopted into a family, it is beneficial to grown-ups’ and kids’ physical well-being. Children who are raised with pups end up having fewer allergies, ear infections and colds. The theory regarding this boost in immunity is that dogs track in dirt, so kids become more resilient to germs. Senior citizens who own dogs average fewer annual doctor visits than elderly non-owners. Adults of all ages are apt to become more physically fit because of daily dog-walking and ball throwing. Retrievers love to move and this keeps their owners moving, as well, which is a win-win.
Families who adopt Golden Retrievers end up being healthier physically and emotionally. Dogs, in general, can be a boon to human health, but this specific breed seems to be a perfect fit for many clans. These canines are gold in color, as their name implies, ranging from dark to light tones; they are sweet, personable, intelligent, proficient in hunting, highly obedient and have been designated as guide-dogs for blind individuals. In fact, these pups grow into such magnificent animals; they have even starred in popular television shows and movies such as “Full House” and “Air Bud.”
Trained Golden Retriever puppies are well-behaved, obedient, and more intelligent. Trainers can teach them basic tricks like sit, stay, fetch, go outside, and roll-over. They can also teach the pups to potty at the right places and sleep when the time is right.
Dogs can also help their owners to be emotionally healthier. Golden Retriever puppies can alleviate stress, anxiety and depression in their owners in the early days post-adoption as well as through the years. Just petting that silky, blond fur can make cranky individuals perk up. Furthermore, dogs can even help soldiers overcome post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), as well as help them become less withdrawn and angry. For lonely, autistic and other socially deprived human beings, dogs can provide companionship to fill unmet needs.
Having trained puppies can save you a lot of trouble managing your pet’s routine. You can rest easy when it comes to potty training. You can also impress your friends about what the puppy can do. Hence, if you want own dogs that are housebroken and more obedient, buying trained pups is a great option.
Having a puppy can bring love and joy to the family, but it also means having more responsibility. Fortunately, dog trainers can make the responsibility a lot easier by providing you with trained puppies. Just make sure that you buy puppies from the right trainers and breeders. Professional trainers can provide you with top-quality, refined and highly trained Golden Retriever puppies.
