Enviable Qualities of Well-Mannered Vizslas

Many prospective pet parents consider the beautiful Vizsla for its stunning golden-red coat and for its gentle, affectionate demeanor. These sensitive dogs are muscular, fast, and graceful. They are often chosen as hunting dogs because they have energy and endurance. There may be some reasons to hesitate, however. This affectionate breed is often referred to by its nickname, the “Velcro” dog, because it craves physical contact. Thus, they can also get antsy if it does not get the high amount of exercise it needs. Vizslas can be excitable, timid, or stubborn. If these traits have you second guessing your choice, consider the possibility of getting a pre-trained Vizsla.

Training a puppy on your own may be difficult as Vizslas tend to be more independent than most other pointing breeds. However, those who know how to initiate and maintain training often have great success with the puppies. Excited to be outdoors, these dogs are excellent companions to sportsmen and athletes. Whether they are performing in a show ring, obedience ring, or in the field, the Vizsla is a natural. They can handle agility and tracking performances. With the right coaching, trained Vizslas are powerful athletes with the potential for success as show animals and in the field. In fact, some owners have their dogs trained for both purposes. An excellent and well-rounded dog, a trained puppy or adult Vizsla can be an excellent addition to your family.
